2017 Age Group Worlds, from Agnes, 8

First game today was M19 against Colombia - a great game that I will let Holland do the report on. See it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_DGYIkNlxQ

The second game was W19 against South Africa scores 3 goals in the first 9 minutes of the game and Team USA keeps them scoreless until the final 5 seconds of the game, where RSA scores on a breakaway play. It was a beautifully played and very intense game. I’m pretty sure South Africa wasn’t planning on having such a tough game today! Well done, ladies! See the game here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ef5D1jTFXt8

In celebration of Nathan Baker’s 21st birthday, the U23 men played their final round robin game against Australia. They played a very good game, but Australia is simply too strong and the final score was 7 - 0 in Australia’s favor. But we all know Australia - that’s a very respectable score! Well done USA! Happy Birthday Nathan! As Nathan said - “there were two halves to that game, and underwater hockey won!” See the game and Nathan’s post game interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyWDO6HuK20

Tomorrow, the U23 play their final game of the tournament against Canada. It’s Decker Onken’s birthday tomorrow, so USA darn well better win!

The U19 men also played their last round robin game against Australia. See it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wMiWlmG-1E They will also being playing Canada tomorrow.

The final USA game was the U19 ladies against Great Britain. The GBR ladies did not go down easy. They battled hard until the very end. USA did pull off the win, but they had to work hard for it. Final score: USA 3, Great Britain 0. See the game here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6a3f1v6J04

Tomorrow the USA ladies will be playing against Colombia for a chance to go up to the medal rounds. It’s going to be a crazy game. Tomorrow, game #168 at 2:30 Tasmania time.

After the ladies’ game, the coaches all had a go at each other. The stands were full in expectation of a live stream, which did not materialize. Unfortunate, but the crowds seemed to have fun anyway. The teams appeared to be fairly even in a fast game with no refs.

It’s hard to believe we’re starting playoffs tomorrow. Go Team USA!!!

PS - I hope to post some pictures soon, but my bed is calling me awfully seductively… :)

Our game with Argentina is not until 5:10 pm so we take the boys on an optional cruise around the Bay of Hobart. It's bitter cold and we're the only people on the boat.

Our 10:40 am game is with the Brits. They beat New Zealand 5 - 2. I consider this an upset and know that our boys will have their hands full.
